The Rātā Rangatahi programme is named after the hearty rakau māori Rātā, who interweaves and crawls throughout the trees of the ngāhere, enabling it to strengthen and thrive. The programme offers rangatahi opportunities to be immersed in local food production, climate healing, and community development, while also growing their confidence, vision and physical activity, following a Tuakana Teina learning model.

We have hired 3 rangatahi interns over the raumati holidays to gain experience in our circular food hub and community whare. With the support of our kaimahi these interns will be sharing their journey and will be running a regular rangatahi gardening ropū. The programme kicks of on the 27th of November and we’d like to invite any rangatahi aged 15-25 living Te Upoko o Te Ika a Maui (the Greater Wellington Region) to participate and keep their tinana active!

If you’d like to take part please get in touch! If you have more questions you can check out our FAQ.

You can follow the Rātā Rangatahi journey on our Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok.

The Rātā Rangatahi Fund

Along side the programme we will also be trialling a new participatory grantmaking approach. All rangatahi participating in the gardening ropū will have access to a mana enhancing and democratic digital decision tool created by The Wellbeing Protocol. This will allow the rangatahi to allocate grant money and determine what active recreation and māra kai activities they want to see happen in our hapori.

The fund has been seeded by a philanthropic donation and the members of the public can also contribute to the fund with 100% of there donation (less card fees) going to empowering the rangatahi in the programme.
