We`re Growing - and Hiring!

Full Time Urban Farmer - love to grow veges and make beautiful compost?!

(please note this is a paid role)

This is a new role, in a new pilot farm development in the Hutt Valley as we work towards strengthening resilience and local food production.  This farm will become our flagship of not only sustainable, regenerative agriculture, but with a sound business model embedded in it .

The farmer will be implementing and supporting the development of a new farm, and working with a wider development team to test our new CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) system we are developing.

The Farmer will work as part of a development team for the first year, being supported by a Project Manager, Urban Kai Manager and Development Director.

The primary purpose of the role is to be hands on, growing vegetables, making compost and maintaining best practices. The role will also involve running weekly educational sessions for members of our CSA, building knowledge and capacity.

Skills and Attributes: What you`ll need for this role:

  • Experienced urban farming/market gardener, vegetable grower with an understanding and willingness to use regenerative practices.

  • Compost production will be a key part of this role, and our farmer will delight in turning waste into beautiful soil nutrition.

  • Ability to work self-directed, and to manage teams of workers (mostly CSA members)

  • You’ll have a philanthropic bent, enjoy working with a bunch of clever people, be passionate about helping to grow and feed our children, and families 

  • You will understand and believe in community-led development, be calm, organised, results-oriented, creative and a self-starter.

Friend and Fundraising Manager - 15 hours per week. (Paid Role)

Skills and Attributes:

  • To continue the amazing work of the Common Unity whanau to develop and implement long term sustainable revenue streams to support Common Unity`s strategic priorities, and diverse community- led activities. 

  • Importantly, you`ll have experience in fundraising, grant writing, sponsorship and enjoy engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders. Plus strong communications skills, and either a knowledge of, or interest in learning about, volunteer­- based fundraising tools and techniques. 

  • You will be familiar with building strategic relationships with corporate partners, trusts, major donors, community donors, grant providers, local businesses, volunteers, schools, and the community.  

  •  You’ll work closely with and be part of our Senior Leadership Team, and help implement our strategic plan to help grow other communities.
